Family donates to Marshfield Hope Lodge in memory of wife, mother

The name of a Rhinelander woman has been added to a memorial at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Marshfield.

Victoria "Vicky" Anderson's name was added to the "River of Life" memorial after her family made a donation to the Hope Lodge in her memory.

Anderson passed away June 10 after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

To honor her memory, Anderson's husband, Paul, and her daughters, Karrie Liebherr and Tracy Monk, donated $2,200 to the Hope Lodge, a facility that provides cancer patients who have to travel to Marshfield for treatment a comfortable place to stay.

"During (Vicky's) treatment, we stayed at the Hope Lodge in Marshfield several times," Paul said. "The Hope Lodge is part of the American Cancer Society and provides a free home away from home for cancer patients. It is within walking distance of the Marshfield Clinic, and makes medical care much easier. In some cases it makes care possible where it wouldn't be otherwise."

The funds for the donation came from memorial gifts received at Vicky's funeral, Paul said.

As a result of the donation, Vicky's name will be permanently displayed as part of the Lodge's "River of Life" memorial which includes a waterfall scene.

The Hope Lodge in Marshfield is the only facility in Wisconsin; there 36 Hope Lodges in the U.S.
