Snowmobile trail to be rerouted around closed trestle
Kayla Houp
Of The Lakeland Times

Portions of Goodnow Road and Lakewood Road in Harshaw will be used as a reroute for the Bearskin State Trail snowmobile route while the route over the Pinewood Trestle is closed, according to town officials.

Concerns regarding the structural safety of the trestle recently resulted in the Department of Natural Resources closing the trestle to snowmobile and groomer traffic for the winter season.

"The town board passed, we approved the use of one of the side roads that goes up the Bearskin Trail because one of the trestles is deemed unsafe," Cassian town chairman Tim Augustine told The Lakeland Times on Nov. 12.

Augustine said it was his understanding the engineering firm that inspected the trestle also inspected other trestles from Minocqua to Tomahawk on the trail, but hadn't completed a report yet.

The reroute will utilize approximately 400 feet along Goodnow Road and 200 feet along Lakewood Road for the reroute back to the Bearskin State Trail.
