Breaking: Oneida County Public Safety Committee approves permit for 2020 Hodag Country Fest

The Oneida County Public Safety Committee voted 4-1 Tuesday afternoon to issue a large assembly permit to organizers of the 2020 Hodag Country Festival.

The decision came after fest organizers submitted a 25-point plan to safely hold the festival despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a public comment period prior to the vote, the majority of speakers were opposed to holding the festival this year. It was also noted that the county received approximately 100 emails from the public expressing opinions on the fate of this year's festival.

Approximately two-thirds were opposed while one-third was in favor. A full story will be published in our Friday edition.

To hear this news is beyond disappointing. Expecting 20 thousand plus people to socially distance in such a small area is ridiculous. I haven’t a shred of hope that even a minority of the attendees will wear masks, especially since alcohol can not be consumed through one. One year without the festival will not devastate our community, but there’s little doubt that holding it will.
