8/21/2020 7:28:00 AM First COVID-19 related death in Vilas County reported
The Vilas County Public Health Department has confirmed the county's first death associated with COVID-19. The individual was in their 60s and had severe underlying health conditions, according to a press release issued Aug. 18.
"We are saddened by the loss of one of our community members," Vilas County Public Health Department director and health officer Laurel Dreger said. "We extend our sympathies to their loved ones and all impacted."
COVID-19 can cause serious health complications and death, especially among older adults and people with chronic health conditions, the press release states. "That's why it's important that we all work together to prevent the spread of illness. Simple actions such as washing hands, physical distancing, wearing face coverings, and staying home when sick can have a huge impact on the health and safety of Vilas County."
"Preventing COVID-19 requires a community approach," Dreger said. "It's important that we continue to take steps to protect one another, especially our most vulnerable."
