9/15/2020 7:27:00 AM OC health department reports second COVID-19 death
The Oneida County Health Department on Friday confirmed the second death in Oneida County associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The individual was in their 70s and had underlying health conditions, according to a health department press release.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of another one of our community members," said Linda Conlon, Oneida County Health Department Director and Health Officer. "We extend our sympathies to their loved ones and all impacted."
"To date, 260 people in Oneida County and over 86,250 people in Wisconsin have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and there have been 1,197 deaths in Wisconsin," the release states. "Health officials across Wisconsin have seen a surge in cases in the last several weeks. Testing and contact tracing efforts have been ramped up locally and statewide in an effort to battle the spread of the disease."
COVID-19 can cause serious health complications and death, especially among older adults and people with chronic health conditions, that's why it's important that we all work together to prevent the spread of illness, the release continues. Simple actions such as washing hands, physical distancing, wearing face coverings and staying home when sick can have a huge impact on the health and safety of Oneida County.
"Preventing COVID-19 requires a community approach. It's important that we continue to take steps to protect one another, especially our most vulnerable," added Conlon.
