Al-Gen closed 'for the foreseeable future' following Friday night fire

The Al-Gen Dinner Club on N. Faust Lake Road will be closed "for the forseeable future" following a kitchen fire Friday evening, Sept. 9, according to owner Rob Swearingen. The fire started in the kitchen, on the broiler, Swearingen told the River News. "The kitchen has extensive damage," he said. "The bar and dining room seem to be fine, although I'm sure there is some smoke damage." According to a Pine Lake Fire Department Facebook post, flames were visible when emergency responders arrived on scene. "Pelican requested a response from Rhinelander FD to also assist," according to the post. "Firefighters arrived on scene with crews making a interior attack on the fire, stopping it from spreading into the dining area and bar. Everyone was accounted for and were able to exit the building prior to our arrival. Several employees were attempting to extinguish the fire also before crews arrived on scene. The fire did cause extensive damage but was contained to the kitchen area and roof above kitchen." Swearingen, who represents the 34th District in the Assembly, said the restaurant was about half full when the fire broke out and there were people in the bar. Swearingen said he's extremely grateful that everyone was able to safely exit the building and praised the firefighters and other emergency personnel who responded. "The quick and professional response by law enforcement officers, as well as the Rhinelander, Pine Lake, and Pelican fire departments, Oneida County Dispatch and Medic 1, was fantastic," he said. "They kept me informed as they worked on putting out the fire." As of late Saturday afternoon, Swearingen said the Pelican Fire Department had advised him that the matter is closed with no further investigation necessary.
