Law enforcement: Evidence shows Guild altered emails
After reviewing evidence seized in a raid of Rhinelander city hall last November, as well as information in an outside investigation, an Oneida County sheriff's department captain concluded in March that former Rhinelander city administrator Daniel Guild tampered with public records by altering emails before releasing them to the then city council president and city attorney, sheriff's department records show.

Complaint details Pine Lake arson case
According to a criminal complaint filed July 31, the 41-year-old Rhinelander woman charged with arson in connection with a July 27 fire at an apartment complex in Pine Lake told police she poured an accelerant in her bedroom in an attempt to scare away a person she claimed had broken in. Local sheriff's departments say no to governor on face masks
Gov. Tony Evers last week declared a new COVID-19 state of emergency and issued an order requiring all Wisconsin residents aged 5 and older to wear face masks indoors through Sept. 28, but both the Oneida County and Vilas County sheriff's departments quickly said "no thank you," saying the order would not be enforced by their departments. Nicolet College to launch fall term online
When the state's Safer at Home order went into effect in March the Nicolet College campus in Rhinelander was closed to students and staff and nearly all of the school's programming was shifted to an online format in an effort to minimize transmission of the novel coronavirus. But Kate Ferrel, executive vice president of academic and student affairs at Nicolet, said this wasn't a major switch for the technical college because the majority of its courses were already offered in an online or distance-based format, and those courses that weren't already offered virtually were altered to that format. School board approves computer infrastructure upgrades
When the coronavirus pandemic forced schools to close in March and instruction switched to virtual learning, the School District of Rhinelander's technology infrastructure was up to the demand. Now, with plans for the fall term unclear, the school board voted Monday to approve the expenditure of just under $40,700 to purchase new components to handle even more demand, if need be.
