Rhinelander's Laser Pros International improved to 4-0 in the Northwoods Babe Ruth Senior League Thursday, jumping out to an early lead before holding on to defeat Tomahawk Gold 8-4 at Stafford Field.

Laser Pros jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and led 8-1 before Tomahawk rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Prep League: Eagle River holds off Rhinelander Black

In a game where both teams struggled to drive in runs, Eagle River did it slightly better than Rhinelander Black Wednesday night, and earned a 4-1 win at Stafford Field.

The teams combined to strand 25 base runners in the contest. Eagle River left 13 on base but jumped out to an early lead and held on behind a complete game pitching effort by Nels Evensen.

The Hodags weren't able to do much better, leaving 12 men on base. The Black team was unable to get any runs across in the fourth after loading the bases with nobody out.

Rhinelander's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh as Kyrle Vanney reached on a error and scored on a Caleb Plaumann groundout. The Hodags managed only four hits, including two by Will Gretzinger. Mason Baker and Oscar Hanson recorded hits to help load the bases in the fourth.

The Black team used five different pitchers in the contest. Hanson and Gretzinger each struck out four and pitched two innings of scoreless relief. Baker started and took the loss for Rhinelander Black, allowing a run on two hits in the first inning. Alex Rappley and Cody Everson also spend time on the mound.

Eagle River scored twice off Rappley in the second inning, and got a run off Everson in the sixth. Hodag pitchers combined to allow only six hits, but issued nine walks.

The loss dropped Rhinelander Black to 1-2 overall.
