SDR Special Olympians compete in state bowling

The School District of Rhinelander's Special Olympics team participated in the 2019 State Bowling Meet Saturday, Nov. 9 at Dale's Weston Lanes. There were more than 450 athletes from 36 agencies that represented the Northern region.

The School District of Rhinelander advanced eight of its 12 athletes to the state competition.

Whitley Divine brought home the silver medal with a second-place finish in her division. Allison Brunette and Maria Dornfeld came in fourth place in their divisions. Stephen Herrmann took sixth place. Spencer Smith finished the morning in seventh place. Finally, Paige Appling and Hannah Umland took eighth place in their respective divisions.

"The athletes abided by the Special Olympics Oath of 'Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt,' as they competed that morning,"  SDR stated in a press release. "All of the athletes demonstrated amazing sportsmanship and Hodag pride."
