Note: The River News sports department prides itself on its extensive coverage of Rhinelander High School athletics. There's more to sports than wins, losses and box scores though, and that's especially the case when it comes to high school athletics. So once a week, reporter Andy Hildebrand will pull back the curtain and offer a glimpse at the personalities that make Hodag athletics so special. Here's five questions and five answers, some serious and others far from, but every one out of left field.
This season, Mitchel Modic will be counted on to help buoy a starting defensive line for head coach Dan Millot's varsity soccer team. After some poor luck last year, the team is looking to rebound and maybe just change their stars.
River News: What's your favorite movie?
Modic: I'm going to have to say "A Knight's Tale" with Heath Ledger. It has a great story line of a man who changed his stars. It is a great movie overall, and has all parts of a great movie packed into one. It's got action, drama, comedy and romance. It's got it all.
RN: Which of your teammates on the soccer team makes you laugh the hardest?
Modic: That's a tough one. I think Brendan McGuire. He always has something funny to say or do. No matter what we are talking about or doing, he is always able to make it fun, but not too much where we lose focus.
RN: What would be the first purchase you'd make if you won the lottery?
Modic: I would definitely go and buy a car, not a super sports car or anything, but like a small SUV or something like that. I really want a car for myself right now, since I have to share with my parents. My life would be a lot easier with my own.
RN: What's your favorite class/subject in school?
Modic: Band, end of story. The band is an extended family to me. It's a great class with a wonderful atmosphere and a great teacher. Not only does she teach well she becomes another mother to everyone in band.
RN: What's your favorite sports memory so far at RHS?
Modic: That would be my first varsity goal my freshman year. I don't really remember much of it, but right after I scored Coach Millot subbed me off and waited at the line to shake my hand and congratulate me. That was really cool.
