Boys' soccer: Rhinelander 10, Antigo 0

The Rhinelander High School boys' soccer team traveled to Antigo Thursday night for their first game of the 2014 season, a resounding 10-0 win over the Red Robins.

Exchange student Christoffer Kjeve led the way for Rhinelander with five goals and one assist. Devin Oleinik added a hat trick, and Gunnar Millot and Jacob Piasecki each scored a goal of their own.

The blowout win gave Millot the opportunity to get a look at each one of his varsity players out on the field and he was particularly impressed with the defense, which limited the Red Robins to only two shots on goal. Bryce White and Brendan McGuire split time in goal and each recorded a save. The Hodags are competing in a home invite at the Hansen Lake Soccer Complex over the weekend.

Girls' tennis: Rhinelander 7, Medford 0

It was more domination for the Rhinelander High School girls' tennis team Thursday at their dual meet in Medford. The Hodags won all six matches handily, improving to 2-0 on the season.

On the singles side, Rhinelander's No. 1 player Eileen Emond beat Medford's Shantel Faude 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 player Ivy Packard beat Beth Marshall 6-0, 6-0. Kristina Jacobson, Rhinelander's No. 3 player, beat Chelsea Rausch 6-0, 6-1, and No. 4 player Belinda Weddle beat Sydney Emmerich 6-4, 6-4.

The doubles side followed suit. No. 1 duo Eva O'Melia and Erin Tenderholt beat Cierra Danen and Marissa Friedel 6-3, 6-4. The No. 2 pair, Tessa Bloch and Maddie Barnes, beat Rylee Anderson and Carly Rhyner 6-2, 6-1, and the No. 3 duo of Bri DeNamur and Ali Schickert beat Katie Doucette and Keysha Firnstahl.

The Hodags are next hosting a home invitational against Ironwood, Merrill and Ashland Friday morning.

Full reports will be published in Saturday's River News.
