Local skaters fare well at State Games of America

Ten members of the Rhinelander Figure Skating Club took part in the State Games of America Aug. 2-6 at the Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Hodag contingent fared well, capturing 12 gold medals and 42 medals overall. The skaters qualified for the biannual event by medaling in the Badger State Games earlier this winter.

Recently graduated Rhinelander High School senior Lauryn Cook brought home the most medals, with 10 overall, including gold medals in Young Adult Dramatic Entertainment and Junior Step Sequence.

Aubrey Barber won five gold medals. Nicole Brunette won three gold medals. Carmen Incha and Sadie Jones each won one gold medal.

Additionally, the group also won medals in a few team performances. Joyce Hauser and Michelle Pazdernik took silver in Duet. Incha and Rachel Uhlarik took home silver in Young Adult Duet. Hauser, Incha, Cook, Grace Hoger and Uhlarik won bronze in Mini Production.

Aubrey Barber and Alyssa Lamb also represented the club at the State Games of America.

NICOLE BRUNETTE: Gold - Jumps, Compulsory Skills, Duet. Silver - Spins, Free Skate.

LAURYN COOK: Gold - Junior Step Sequence, Young Adult Dramatic Entertainment. Silver - Young Adult Light Entertainment, Young Adult Interpretive, Juvenile Spins, European Waltz. Bronze - Juvenile Jumps, Juvenile Compulsory Skills, Foxtrot, Mini Production. Fourth place - Junior Moves in Field. Sixth place - Juvenile Free Skate.

JOYCE HAUSER: Silver - Dramatic Showcase, Duet. Bronze - Mini Production, Free Skate, Spins. Sixth place - Step Sequence, Compulsory Skills. Seventh Place - Jumps.

GRACE HOGER: Bronze - Mini Production.

CARMEN INCHA: Gold - Intermediate Step Sequence. Silver - Young Adult Duet. Bronze - Intermediate Moves in the Field, Mini Production. Fifth place - Pre-gold Dance.

SADIE JONES: Gold - Spins. Silver - Jumps. Fifth place - Beginner Free Skate Program.

ALYSSA LAMB: Fourth place - Basic 6 Elements. Fifth Place - Basic 6 Program.

MICHELLE PAZDERNIK: Silver - Compulsory Skills, Jumps, Long Program, Duet, Step Sequence. Bronze - Mini Production. Sixth place - Spins. Eighth place - Light Entertainment.

RACHEL UHLARIK: Silver - Teen Young Adult Duet. Bronze - Pre-Juvenile Free Skate, Mini Production.
