RHS sports recap: Tuesday, Sept. .12

Boys' soccer: Rhinelander 3, Northland Pines 1

A pair of Jonus Sabani goals less than two minutes apart early in the second half proved to be the difference as the Rhinelander High School boys' soccer team defeated Northland Pines 3-1 Tuesday night at Mike Webster Stadium.

Matthew Von Oepen had the equalizer for Rhinelander in the 15th minute after Dawson Hogenmiller scored on a counterattack for Northland Pines in the sixth minute.

Rhinelander outshot Northland Pines 25-10 in a battle of the conference's two remaining unbeaten teams. Josh Randolph recorded three saves in the win for Rhinelander.

The Hodags (7-2-1, 4-0-0 Great Northern) travel to Medford Thursday.

Volleyball: Mosinee 3, Rhinelander 1

The Rhinelander High School volleyball team fell to Mosinee 3-1 Tuesday night in Mosinee. Set scores were 25-14, 23-25, 25-22 and 25-19.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Rhinelander (10-12, 1-2 Great Northern) returns to Mosinee Saturday for the first leg of the Great Northern Conference tournament.

Girls' tennis: Rhinelander 7, Phillips 0

The Rhinelander High School girls' tennis team rolled to a 7-0 sweep over Phillips on the road Tuesday.

The Hodags dropped only three games in the five contested matches. Belinda Weddle, Alex Oestreich and Emma Roberts were winners in singles. Livi Roberts/Haley Seefeldt, Alexis Pyrchalla/Madi Losch won in doubles. The Hodags received forfeit wins at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Rhinelander (7-1 Great Northern) hosts Lakeland Thursday.
