RHS sports recap: Thursday, Oct. 12

Boys' soccer: Rhinelander 2, Medford 1

The Rhinelander High School boys' soccer team scored twice in the final 20 minutes to finish the Great Northern Conference season undefeated as it rallied to defeat Medford 2-1 Thursday night at Mike Webster Stadium.

Richie Triplett put home a Freddy Wisner corner kick for Rhinelander to tie the match in the 72nd minute and Wisner scored the game winner with 2:09 remaining with a long-range shot from about 45 yards.

Medford took the lead in the 58th minute on an Armin Kliewe free kick.

The Hodags outshot Medford 28-9. Josh Randolph made two saves in the win.

Rhinelander (14-3-2, 10-0-0 Great Northern) opens the WIAA tournament at home next Thursday against either Shawano or Medford.

Girls's swimming: Rhinelander 121, Colby/Abbotsford 49

The Rhineladner High School girls' swim team won all 11 events Thursday night in a 121-49 victory at Colby/Abbotsford.

Lisa Kennedy won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle for Rhinelander, Makenna Winnicki took the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly and Grace Heck won both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Marisa McGuire took the 100 freestyle and Marissa Martin won the 100 breaststroke.

Rhinelander finishes 5-1 in Great Northern Conference duals. The Hodags travel to Wausau for a triangular against Wausau East and Chippewa Falls next Thursday.
