Rhinelander Special Olympians compete in track regionals

The School District of Rhinelander's Special Olympics team competed in a regional track and field meet at Merrill High School on Saturday, May 11. The team had 12 athletes participate in various throwing and running events. Ribbon awards were presented to first- through eighth-place finishers.

Six athletes will represent the team and participate in the State Summer Games at UW-Stevens Point June 6-8, 2019. Marshall Barlowski, Stephen Herrmann, and Gabe White will compete in turbo jav; Maria Dornfeld in softball throw, White and Miguel Gonzalez in shot put, and Nevaeh Johnson in the 100-meter run.

Individual results were:

• Paige Appling - 6th in shot put, 7th in turbo jav, and 4th in the 100

• Marshall Barlowski - 5th in shot put, 1st in turbo jav, and 5th in the 100

• Stephen Herrmann - 5th in shot put, 1st in turbo jav, and 5th in the 100

• Allison Brunette - 3rd in softball throw

• Maria Dornfeld - 2nd in softball throw and 5th place in the 50

• Miguel Gonzalez - 3rd in shot put, 5th in turbo jav, 8th in the 50

• Nevaeh Johnson - 6th in softball throw and 2nd in the 100

• Daray Hawes - 5th in softball throw and 5th in the 100

• Gabe White - 1st in shot put, 3rd in turbo jav, and 8th in the 100

• Spencer Smith - 4th in softball throw and 7th in the 50

• Jenna May Enders - 3rd place in softball throw and 2nd in the 50

• Whitley Divine - 2nd in softball throw and 4th the 100.

"Thanks to all athletes, families, coaches, volunteers, and fans for another great season," the district stated in a press release.
