RHS gymnastics, Northern Edge girls' hockey snowed out Monday
By River News Staff

Inclement weather forced School District of Rhinelander officials to call off two varsity sporting events Monday afternoon.

The RHS gymnastics' team's Great Northern Conference Small division opener was postponed as was the Northern Edge co-op girls' hockey team game against the Bay Area Ice Bears in Antigo.

Chequamegon pulled the plug on the gymnastics contest shortly after noon on Monday, according to RHS activities director Brian Paulson. The girls' hockey game was nixed a couple of hours later when school officials canceled all extra-curricular activities in the district for Monday evening.

As of deadline for this edition, make-up dates for the affected contests had not been announced.

A quick-moving storm system made its way through the Northwoods late Monday morning and into Monday afternoon, dropping 4.2 inches of snow in Rhinelander over the matter of a few hours, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay. Storm totals were higher to the northwest of the Hodag city, with Minocqua receiving 6 inches of snow.

The RHS gymnastics team will host the Snowflake Invitational Saturday at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnastics which, barring a potential make-up dual against Chequamegon, would be the team's final meet before the Christmas holiday.

In a schedule change, the Northern Edge girls' hockey team will travel to Northland Pines next Tuesday. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, but moved back a day, according to schedules posted by Northern Edge co-op schools Rhinelander and Lakeland.
