Rhinelander's Kenedy Van Zile picked up another award Monday following a record-setting senior season on the RHS girls' basketball team.
The point guard was one of 10 players named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 2 all-state girls' basketball team.
Van Zile led the Hodags, scoring 21.3 points per game while adding 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 4.1 steals per contest.
During the season Van Zile not only became the all-time leading scorer in RHS girls' basketball history, surpassing Becky Knutson, her 1,670 career points left her tops all-time scoring list at Rhinelander - beating Mike Flory's previous school mark by 104 points.
"I've been blessed to have this young lady with her talent," Rhinelander High School girls' basketball coach Ryan Clark said Sunday during the team's year-end banquet. "She has great basketball IQ. She's left a great legacy in our school. You set a standard for all these young kids to get better. Your competitiveness in a big environment is impressive. You play well when the lights are on."
Van Zile was one of seven seniors on the D2 all-state team, joined by Jada Donaldson of Beaver Dam, Erin Hedman of New Berlin Eisenhower, Macy McGlone of Hortonville, Jasmine Kondrakiewicz of Milwaukee Pius XI, Jaddan Simmons of Green Bay Southwest and Kylie Strop of River Falls. Juniors Sammy Opichka of Green Bay Notre Dame and Many Wilke of Beaver Dam, and sophomore Kammy Peppler of Hortonville rounded out the all-state list.
Another 12 players earn all-state honorable mention in Division 2. Lakeland freshman Juliana Ouimette was the only player from the northern-most sectional to earn honorable mention.
