Auditions Sept. 11, 12 for Nicolet Players' production of 'God of Carnage'

Auditions for "God of Carnage," the award-winning play highlighting the increasingly rocky confrontation between two couples, are set for Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the Nicolet College Theatre in Rhinelander.

The Nicolet Players production calls for four characters - two men and two women - to play the roles of parents with pre-teen children, according to a press release announcing the casting call.

Actors do not need to be Nicolet students or have previous experience to be in the cast. No preparation is required, although it will be helpful to have read the script beforehand.

Scripts are available for a three-day checkout from the Richard J. Brown Library, located in the Lakeside Center at Nicolet College. At auditions, participants will be asked to read several short sections of the script.

Written by Yasmina Reza, "God of Carnage" is a study of upper-middle class New Yorkers who try to resolve a schoolyard situation started by their children, only to find that a resolution is far from easy. The four people find their lives laid bare in the attempt to resolve their children's spat.

The New York Times said it is "a streamlined anatomy of the human animal [that] incites the kind of laughter that comes from the gut, as involuntary as hiccups or belching."

"God of Carnage" won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play and was later made into the film "Carnage," directed by Roman Polanski.

Rehearsals begin Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Performances will run Nov. 3 to 5 and 9 to 12 and start at 7:30 p.m., except for the Sunday matinees which start at 2 p.m.

Questions about the auditions or performances can be directed to Nicolet College Director of Theatre Jim Nuttall at (715) 365-4476 or email
