The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra played its final concert in Rhinelander Thursday evening to a full house at the John and Dori Brown Performing Arts Center in Rhinelander High School. This was the last concert to be offered by this group as funds received from the Jean Simmons Estate have been depleted, organizers said in a press release.

Discover Wisconsin, the nation's longest-running tourism TV show, has launched its popular photo contest via social media. In partnership with Wisconsin Counties Association and Sargento, 12 fan-submitted photos will be published in Discover Wisconsin's annual calendar, featuring images of Wisconsin destinations.

There's no place like home
Northwood School of Dance held its spring recital over the weekend. The dancers presented The Wizard of Oz as well as several specialty pieces. Pictured is the finale of 'The Wizard of Oz' featuring Dorothy and the entire cast. Dorothy was played by Tina Kansariwala, Sage Flory was the tinman, Annika Johnson was the wicked witch, Olivia Monk portrayed the scarecrow, the good witch was Natalie Shrock, and the cowardly lion was played by Mackenzie Bourcier and Makenzie Kukkan.

People huddled in the sun on Brown Street to combat the cold during the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday, March 11 in downtown Rhinelander. Despite a parade-time temperature around 20 degrees, several gathered for the annual parade, which kicks off a week of St. Patrick's Day related events for participating downtown businesses.

Nashville Recording Artist Red Higgins will present a Classic Country Christmas Show to benefit veterans starting at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Tomahawk High School.

Higgins told the River News he reached out to VFW Post 2687 to see if they were interested in having a show.

An informal Christmas sing-along/concert will be presented by the Rhinelander Area Community Band at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Oneida Senior Center.

Hot cocoa and cookies will be provided by the senior center.

The event is free, and everyone is welcome.
