Wabeno Area Players to present the musical comedy 'Nunsense Jamboree'
The Wabeno Area Players and the Essenhaus in downtown Wabeno will present the fast-paced and hilarious, "Sister Amnesia's Country Western Nunsense Jamboree" later this month.

There will be seven performances spread over two weekends.

The dates are: April 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, with dinner served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m.; there will be a matinee on Sunday, May 1 and lunch will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 2 p.m.

Chain Skimmers preparing for another season
The Conover Chain Skimmers water ski organization is much older than all of its participants. The team is run by its members, with membership age ranging from 13 to mid-20s. Jillian Lathrop and her sister Lindsay are in charge of publicity for the group this year and they are looking forward to a great year.

"Playing in Dirt" pottery class offered by Community Education Program
The School District of Rhinelander is once again offering a Playing in Dirt (Pottery) class.

Learn the basics of hand-building, wheel-throwing, rolling clay for slab work, and glazing. Explore texturing devices like wall coverings, spools, chopsticks, kitchen utensils and more. Indulge your creative muse and come away from the class with several handmade pieces and a love of this art form.

Throwback to sunny St. Patty's
The fifth annual Rhinelander St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in downtown Rhinelander. The event is held in conjunction with a downtown pub crawl that will run through March 17. In light of a forecasted high near 60 degrees for Saturday's event, which would be the warmest St. Patty's parade since 2012, here are some photos from the unseasonably mild inaugural event.

Senior Center group planning trip to see 'Sister Act'
The Oneida County Senior Center is organizing an overnight trip, Thursday and Friday, April 14 and 15 to the Fireside Dinner Theatre to see "Sister Act," originally a blockbuster movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and then a Broadway musical. Now direct from a national tour, it will be coming to the Fireside.

Deceiving Granny
"Deceiving Granny," the Rhinelander High School Drama Department's spring production has two shows remaining: 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the RHS auditorium. Two separate casts are performing the comedy. Oneida County Humane Society announces Furball
Mark your calendars and get your tickets for the third annual Oneida County Humane Society (OCHS) Furball sponsored by The Petco Foundation. Saturday, April 30 is the date and The Reiter Center in Three Lakes is the place for this year's event. The fundraiser includes a gourmet dinner, entertainment, prizes, and the opportunity to try for awesome raffles and auction items, craft beer and wines will also be available. The evening's events are planned to run from 5 to 9 p.m. Tables of eight or six can also be reserved, a great way for businesses and friends to show support and have fun, too. All proceeds directly benefit the hundreds of animals that pass through the OCHS adoption center each year. Individual ticket prices are $50 and are available now through the adoption center or from Furball committee members. Call (715) 362-5992 for more information. OCHS is a 501(c)(3) public charity.

Free community music festival March 13 at Nicolet College
Discover the fine musical talents of your Northwoods friends and neighbors at the Community Music Festival at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, in the Nicolet College Theatre.

The free event will feature a dynamic afternoon of music with performances by five local music groups. Taking the stage will be the Rhinelander Area Community Band, Nicolet Male Chorus, Nicolet Choraliers, Hymns and Hyrs, and Lakeland Barbershop Chorus.

Each group will perform selections from their season's repertoire. The music will be sweet and you'll be smiling as your friends and neighbors entertain you with all their heart and soul.

The Nicolet College Theatre is in the Learning Resources Center on the Nicolet Campus, one mile south of Rhinelander just off of Hwy. G.

Winter Escapes auction
Mel's Trading Post and Nicolet National Bank donated an Old Town kayak as an auction item for the 29th annual Kiwanis Winter Escapes Extravaganza. The Kiwanis event, slated for March 5 at The Taj in Rhinelander, has raised over $325,000 for community projects and programs for children and families including playground equipment at Pioneer Park, the food pantry greenhouse and the outdoor basketball court at Central School. Drawings for gift certificates and merchandise donated by local merchants will be held throughout the evening, in addition to drawings for $1,000 and $2,000 cash prizes. Proceeds from this year's event will be used to construct an indoor/outdoor children's art education classroom at ArtStart in Rhinelander. Ticket prices are $40. Only 500 Winter Escapes tickets will be sold. Tickets are available from any Kiwanian or by calling (715) 367-3715.
