Dana DeMet Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
You really know you're from the Northwoods when you get excited at the prospect of finding that perfect item at a local garage sale. If the thought of a great bargain or stumbling upon a unique addition to your home gets your pulse up, then you definitely need to find yourself in Rhinelander this weekend. The city will be in the eye of the storm with Rhinelander's citywide rummage and sidewalk sales as well as rummage sales put on by NATH and the YMCA.
Rummage sale weekend kicks off today, Thursday, with the start of NATH/Frederick Place's Mammoth Rummage Sale in the Trig's Riverwalk Centre. From Thursday through Saturday, NATH will be selling a large variety of donated items that would look great in your home. Many of the items were donated by Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) as part of their closure of the company's Awassa Lodge in St. Germain. The Lodge had been in operation since the 1920s so you'll be sure to find some great additions for your man-cave or Northwoods retreat. Of course, all proceeds from the sale benefit the Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing which operates our area's homeless shelter. Sale times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
On Friday, your purchases will also go to a good cause when you shop the YMCA of the Northwoods' Rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the YMCA. Items like microwaves, chairs, tables, power tools, toys and more will be sold to benefit the Y's Annual Support Campaign. Individuals can donate non-clothing items toward the sale or you can also set up your own table at the event to sell items from your own home. Tables are $10 each and you are welcome to keep the proceeds of your sales.
For those looking to hunt down even more great deals, check out the weekend edition of this paper for a full listing of rummage, garage, and sidewalk sales going on around Rhinelander all day on Saturday. Rhinelander's annual citywide rummage sale gives bargain-hunters the opportunity to get out and explore our city and area while finding unique purchases from other people's homes. The River News will have a listing and map of all the sales going on in the city so you won't miss a single one.
Don't forget to fuel up at one of our great restaurants or coffee shops before and during your big day of bargain-hunting in Rhinelander this weekend. See you at the sales.
