Tenor to perform at Campanile Aug. 26

Live from New York, it's ... Kirk Bangstad! Bangstad will bring his talents to the stage at Campanile Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The performance begins at 7 p.m. Raised in Stevens Point, Bangstad is a professional operatic tenor based in New York City. His international career has brought him to stages as far away as Japan, Australia, Israel, and Austria, and his most recent performances include Eisenstein in "Die Fledermaus"  with Opera Manhattan, the stage manager in Ned Rorem's "Our Town" with the Raylynmor Opera Company in New Hampshire, and Pat Denning in "42nd  Street" at the Engeman  Theatre in Long Island, N.Y.

Prior to pursuing a degree in graduate vocal studies at Northwestern University, Bangstad earned a degree in government at Harvard University. He appears on the stage at Campanile due to an unlikely chain of events and was "discovered" while stepping in to sing the national anthem at Minocqua's Bear Cupboard 5K run after the original singer didn't show up. Because he is spending the summer in Minocqua with his wife, Elizabeth, it provided the perfect opportunity to perform for the Lakeland area.

Those who attended the Festival Aurora Borealis Chorus Concert have already heard and seen Bangstad as he sang with this year's chorus, including some solo performances. For this show, Bangstad will perform selections of musical theater, opera and jazz. He will be accompanied by Ann Applegate on the grand piano. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Half of the evening's proceeds will be donated the Lung Cancer Research Fund.

Campanile Center for the Arts is located one block west of southbound U.S. Hwy. 51 on Milwaukee St. in downtown Minocqua. For more information, go to or call (715) 356-9700.
