Walk to End Alzheimer's Sept. 23

The Alzheimer's Association® is inviting Rhinelander residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer's by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's.

The Walk will take place at 9 a.m. Sept. 23 at Rhinelander High School.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete either a one- or three-mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer's Association, according to a press release announcing the event.

Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

Of the Walk, Laurie Shill, executive director of the Greater Wisconsin Chapter says, "The money we raise for our Walks allows us to provide local care and support services to ease the burden on those living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers. It also fuels our public policy efforts and allows us to advance critical research towards finding a cure. We are so appreciative of all of our Walkers and supporters because we truly couldn't do what we do without your help."

In addition to the Walk, participants will enjoy a ceremony with stories from local families connected to the disease, music, refreshments and more, the release states.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed.

Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer's and other dementias in the U.S. In Wisconsin alone, there are more than 110,000 people living with the disease and 193,000 caregivers.

Sign up as a team captain, join a team or register to walk as an individual at alz.org/walk.
