The first, second and third place winners competed at a second judging level at the GFWC Northwoods District meeting on Saturday, April 13 and will proceed to the third judging level at the GFWC-WI State Convention in May in Pleasant Prairie.

The artwork that wins at state will be displayed at the Oshkosh Public Museum, home of Helen Farnsworth Mears, during the summer.

Local restaurants: McDonald's and Culver's provided all participants with ice cream certificates.

The purpose of this contest is to encourage student artists and promote art within our community. The art contest was created in 1927 by GFWC-WI to honor renowned Oshkosh sculptor, Helen Farnsworth Mears (1876-1917). Mears' works are on display in the U.S. Capitol, Smithsonian, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Wisconsin State Capitol and other national and state collections.

For more information about the art contest or the local GFWC club, contact Helen Mears Art Contest Co-chairwomen Pat Miller (715-282-6013) or Barb Oestreicher (715-282-5956).
