'An Interprofessional Approach
to Understanding Autism' May 22
Three guest speakers will be featured at the "An Interprofessional Approach to Understanding Autism" event Wednesday, May 22 at Norwood Pines Supper Club in Minocqua.
Speakers include Kris Barnekow, Ph.D., OTR/L, IMH-E®, UW-Milwaukee, Department of Occupational Science and Technology; Kristina K. Webster, MS/CCC-SLP, speech language pathologist, Lakeland STAR School/Academy; and Eric Mikoleit- special education teacher, MS, director at Lakeland STAR School/Academy, organizers said in a press release.
From 5 to 6:15 p.m., complimentary hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be available, with the education presentation to follow. The presentation will be about 45 minutes long with a Q&A session after.
The hope through the event is to define and describe autism spectrum disorders and present the incidence, prevalence and etiology; convey the importance of an interprofessional team in the early identification and intervention of autism; describe the role of the SLP and OT in identifying and intervening with children at risk for or diagnosed with autism; and introduce the educational services delivered at Lakeland STAR Academy, organizers said.
