Regional art exhibit on display at Nicolet College through June 29

Works created by emerging artists from across the Northwoods will be on display in the Nicolet College Art Gallery May 29 through June 29 during the annual Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP) exhibit.

The installation includes a wide variety of art forms including paintings, drawings, ceramics, fiber, and photography, along with others.

"It's always exciting to see the latest pieces created by local artists," Nicolet community cultural program director Melinda Childs said in a press release. "We have many, many talented artists in the region and this exhibit is a great way for them to come together, deepen their connections with each other, and share their many forms of artistic expression with the public."

Admission is free to the exhibit, which is one of several regional WRAP exhibits that will be held across the state this year.

The judge for the event will be Nicolet College Fine Arts Instructor Nate Wilson, who has a master's degree in fine arts from Laguna College of Art and Design in California.

Before joining the Nicolet faculty in 2011, Wilson taught art at Laguna College of Art and Design and for seven years interned under famed New York City Illustrator Brad Holland, whose work regularly appears in such publications as Time, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times.

Wilson will select the best pieces from the Nicolet exhibit to join other best-of-show selections for the statewide WRAP exhibit this fall at the Pyle Center in Madison, the release notes.

The Nicolet exhibit will close Saturday, June 29, with a workshop from 10 a.m. to noon for the artists lead by Wilson. He'll also provide a critique of the exhibit that afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Nicolet College Art Gallery.

The Nicolet College Art Gallery is located in the Northwoods Center on the Rhinelander campus, located one mile south of the city just off of County Highway G.

The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
