Rhinelander Area Community Band returning to Three Lakes concert series

The Three Lakes Historical Society will welcome the Rhinelander Area Community Band back to the Three Lakes Concert in the Park series on Tuesday, July 9 at 7 p.m.

The Rhinelander Area Community Band has been entertaining audiences in the Northwoods for more than 35 years, and performing in Three Lakes has become a summer tradition, concert series organizers said in a press release.

Under the direction of Jim Pekol, the nearly 60-piece band performs a variety of music that spans the generations. Musicians of all ages volunteer their time and come from communities throughout northern Wisconsin.

Membership in the non-audition community band reaches far beyond Rhinelander and includes instrumentalists from communities across the Northwoods, including Tomahawk, Minocqua, Eagle River, Crandon and Three Lakes.

Members include part-time and seasonal "snowbirds" and full-time residents ranging in age from high school to 93, and all ranges of abilities. The one thing all members have in common is a love for playing music in a group, and sharing that music with appreciative audiences.

The Concerts in the Park series is presented by the Three Lakes Historical Society.

The free concerts are held at the gazebo in Cy Williams Park each Tuesday evening through August 6 with different Northwoods groups featured each week.

Attendees are invited to pack a picnic and a blanket or chair; popcorn, soda, water and cider will be for sale. All proceeds benefit the Three Lakes Historical Society and Museum.

Concerts are held rain or shine. The rain location is the Three Lakes High School auditorium.
