RCF awards over $22,000 in grants to community organizations

The Rhinelander Community Foundation (RCF) held its inaugural grant awards celebration at Tilly's July 9, awarding more than $22,000 to community organizations. In May of 2019, RCF opened its initial grant application cycle to qualified organizations needing financial support for positive works in the Rhinelander community. The online application notes RCF is seeking to support innovative ideas for projects, not associated with operating expenses, that strengthen and enhance the quality of life for Rhinelander area citizens and visitors, and that protect those characteristics of the community that are so loved.

RCF was fortunate to receive several applications and was pleased to be able to partially or fully fund 11 community grants totaling over $22,000, according to a press issued this week by RCF president Gina Heck.

This was the first time RCF has granted from the RCF Permanent Endowment. Gifts to endowment remain intact creating annual grant monies from earnings. Endowed funds last forever generating perpetual annual financial support for impactful community works. This creates support for forward momentum in the future and stability for the organizations participating in progress. By holding an annual competitive grant cycle, RCF can help meet the changing needs of our society.

Grants were awarded to the following organizations:

1) Art Start, Rhinelander Inc: $5,000

Project North: a new initiative and signature festival event Sept. 26-28.

2) Rhinelander Area Food pantry: $2,500

Continuation and expansion of the backpack program: ensuring students have food for the weekend.

3) Lights of the Northwoods: $3,000

Purchase of lighting display for continuation and Expansion of holiday lighting project.

4) WXPR Rhinelander: $3,000

Host Nicolet Community concerts series - accessing nationally known musicians to Rhinelander at an affordable cost.

5) Northern Alliance for Temporary Housing: $2,500

Elevator and sidewalk safety enhancements.

6) Rhinelander District Library: $1,500

Adult travel and culture literary materials.

7) Samoset Council: $1,250

Girls and boys youth STEM program: (Science, Technology, Engineering Math) labs and adult character mentoring in Rhinelander.

8) Rhinelander Area Community Band, Inc.: $600

Host a community appreciation concert with fireworks.

9) Personal Essentials Pantry: $1,000

Continuation and expansion of program with purchase of personal essentials for households needing assistance.

10) Marshfield Clinic Health Systems Foundation: $500

Disbursement of Children's Books for families in Rhinelander at well child visits.

11) NAMI Northern Lakes, Inc.: $1,500

Creation of drop-in care facilities for mental health counseling in Rhinelander.

RCF plans to open its grant cycle again in the first half of 2020. Qualified organization eligible to apply are 501(3)c charitable organizations, schools, governmental units and religious institutions providing programs benefitting the public at large. RCF looks to partner with these organizations to support impactful works in the Rhinelander Community.

The mission of the Rhinelander Community Foundation is to facilitate charitable giving and, together with donors, enhance the quality of living in the Rhinelander community now and for future generations.
