8/17/2019 7:30:00 AM Presentation on climate activism Aug. 19 in Minocqua
Our Wisconsin Revolution (Northwoods Chapter) and Northwoods Climate Action Network will hold a public presentation and discussion on Monday, Aug. 19 concerning the recent surge of activism in response to the climate crisis. The event will take place at the Minocqua Public Library, 415 Menominee St., Minocqua, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., organizers said in a press release.
"Over the last year, climate activism has rapidly expanded in the U.S. and Europe," the release states. "Groups such as Youth Strike 4 Climate, the Sunrise Movement, and Extinction Rebellion have surged in their protests and their impact. They are complementing established groups such as Citizens' Climate Lobby and 350.org in calling for serious action on the climate emergency."
"It is remarkable how vocal and how effective youth have been in recent climate activism," said David Barnhill, chair of the Northwoods Climate Action Network and the local chapter of Our Wisconsin of the Northwoods. "We are witnessing the most significant youth activist movement since the Vietnam War."
Monday's presentation will review the different characteristics of these groups, including their various goals and tactics. There will be time for audience members to discuss the groups and offer their perspectives.
