Sept. 11 ceremony, flag retirement
Rhinelander VFW Post 3143 will hold a ceremony on Sept. 11 to honor police, fire, first responders and military as well as properly retire U.S. flags that have been collected.
The ceremony will take place at Hodag Park, near the beach house parking lot, at 6 p.m., organizers announced in a press release.
"Ray Rousseau Post 3143 Veterans of Foreign Wars was not able to convene to properly retire flags on Flag Day," the release notes. "Flags may be brought to the VFW for this ceremony until Sept. 1, 2019. The flags that are brought will then be properly retired at the ceremony by burning them. At this ceremony there will be a short few words to honor military and emergency service personnel past and present."
The Rhinelander VFW Post has also announced it will be passing out its annual donation checks to local nonprofits at 6 p.m. Sept. 4.
