AAUW meeting set for Oct. 7

The Northwoods Chapter of the American Association of University Women will meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Woodruff Community Center.

The featured speaker, Jennifer Kuklenski, PhD., will speak on the "Economic Realities of Immigration Policy," organizers said in a press release.

Membership is open to anyone holding an associate (or equivalent, such as RN), bachelors, or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. This meeting is open to the public.

Dr. Kuklenski is an assistant professor in the Department of Social Responsibility at Northland College in Ashland, where she teaches in business, economics, and community development. She has also held teaching appointments at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Maryland University College - Europe, and Gogebic Community College in business, economics, government, and international affairs.

Kuklenski earned her bachelor's degree in international relations from St. Cloud State University and master's degree in international security from the University of Arizona's School of Government and Public Policy. She completed her Ph.D. in International Development at the University of Southern Mississippi with an emphasis in economic development. Her research interests broadly include the intersection of the economy and public policy, labor economics, and workforce development. Her recent publications include "(Mis)Representation: Unraveling the Narrative of Immigrants As Contemporary Economic Threats" and "A Transatlantic Analysis of Immigration and Economic Growth."

Kuklenski is a senior fellow with Humanity in Action, a nonprofit international educational organization that promotes human rights, diversity, and active citizenship around the world. The Mission of AAUW is to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.
