10/19/2019 7:30:00 AM Oneida County Health Department to host parent night Oct. 29
The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) is offering a free night for parents/caregivers to learn how to help their teens navigate health care decision-making from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Rhinelander High School.
This special evening known as PATCH (Providers and Teens Communicating for Health) for Parents, consists of a one-hour workshop in which parents/caregivers will be able to learn about teen health rights and what they mean for the family, talk to teenagers about their views on health care, explore steps that can be taken to ensure your child(ren) is/are prepared to manage their health as an adult, learn about the Street Smart curriculum at Rhinelander High School (freshman health class) and network with other parents/caregivers, the release states.
A free meal and refreshments will be provided, the release notes. Five attendees will also receive Rouman Cinema gift cards, worth $20 each.
"Adolescents are at a key stage of development," the release states. "They are learning skills and forming habits that they will carry with them into adulthood. Managing their own health and health care is one of the many life skills that will set them up for success as they get older. The goal of this workshop is to provide tools to parents/caregivers that will help them empower youth to become responsible managers of their own health care."
