DRI to host downtown trick-or-treat event Oct. 26
No parking from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

DRI (Downtown Rhinelander, Inc.) will host the annual Downtown Trick-or-Treat event from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

To ensure the safety of all involved, the Rhinelander Police Department has announced certain intersections in the downtown area will be closed to motor vehicle traffic during the event.

"This event continues to grow each year," the department said in a press release. "Due to the large number of children that attend, the sidewalks are unable to accommodate all the pedestrian traffic and some of that traffic spills over into the roadway. This creates safety concerns. To make the event safer for children to participate in, DRI and Rhinelander Police Department have asked area fire departments to participate and block certain downtown intersections to prohibit vehicle traffic during the event. Once we park the fire trucks at their designation intersections, vehicles will not be allowed to operate inside of the street closure area. If you are already parked in the area prior to the event starting, we ask for your cooperation and wait until after the event to attempt to leave. We will be posting signs downtown to remind people of the event and parking restrictions. If you plan on shopping, eating, or being downtown on Saturday between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. we ask you park in the Anderson Street lots. We would like to thank Newbold Fire Department, Crescent Fire Department, Stella Fire Department, Sugar Camp Fire Department, Pelican Fire Department, and Rhinelander Fire Department for participating in the event."
