The YMCA of the Northwoods is offering a seven-week women's self-defense class to be held on Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. from Jan. 8 to Feb. 19.
"Self-defense is a set of awareness, assertiveness, verbal skills, safety strategies, and physical techniques," according to a press release announcing the class. "This self-defense course provides psychological awareness and verbal skills, not just physical training. This class focuses on valuable self-defense maneuvers that build confidence for women. Learning techniques and practicing in a safe environment will give you the confidence you need in any situation."
The instructor, Larry Sparling, is a certified personal trainer, retired law enforcement officer and certified instructor in defensive and arrest tactics.
The cost for this seven-week class is $15 for members and $35 for general public. The registration deadline is Jan. 8, 2020.
