McCabe to speak at Woodruff church Jan. 9

Mike McCabe, former candidate for governor of Wisconsin, will speak at the Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Fellowship from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.

This free event is hosted by the Northwoods chapter of Our Wisconsin Revolution.

McCabe will speak about the current state of politics in Wisconsin and how we can build a progressive movement throughout the state, organizers said in a press release.

"The kind of politics needed to solve our society's biggest problems does not exist," McCabe asserted. "It needs to be created. We are going through an economic revolution driven by the twin forces of globalization and automation. We are going through a social revolution where the country's historically dominant group is on its way to becoming a political minority. We are going through an ecological revolution that threatens life on this planet."

The key problem, McCabe added, is that "our government is paralyzed and is not constructively responding to these emergencies. If we are going to get a handle on any of these challenges, we had better revolutionize our politics."

David Barnhill, chair of the Our Wisconsin of the Northwoods, added, "Mike has been one of the preeminent progressives in Wisconsin for two decades. 2020 is a crucial year, and we are thrilled to have Mike share his vision of what is possible and how we can make it happen."

McCabe served as Executive Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign from 1999 to 2014. In 2015 he founded Blue Jean Nation, promoting citizen empowerment, civic engagement and community organizing to get regular people into the driver's seat of our government. He recently served as the Executive Director of We Are Many-United Against Hate.
