Angel On My Shoulder cancer support foundation celebrates 25 years

Earlier this month, local charitable organization Angel On My Shoulder celebrated 25 years of touching the hearts and lives of children and families affected by cancer.

Based in St. Germain, Angel On My Shoulder supports children and families experiencing cancer by providing cost-free camps to kids across the state.

"When Lolly Rose's husband, Dick, passed away from cancer, she and her family sought a way to make something good out of their loss. In 1995, as a labor of love in Dick's memory, the Angel On My Shoulder cancer support foundation was created as a way to improve the quality of life of those living with or affected by cancer," the organization explained in a press release. "In the past 25 years, Angel On My Shoulder has touched the hearts and lives of hundreds of families and brought support and relief to cancer patients and their family members as they navigate the challenges a cancer diagnosis brings."

"It is a great personal honor and joy to know that through these 25 years, Angel On My Shoulder has become a special blessing to so many in impactful and meaningful ways," said founder Lolly Rose. "Most importantly, I salute those living with or affected by cancer. Their strength and courage inspires me and ignites my passion to be there with them and for them. I am in awe of them. They are truly my heroes."

The organization is also celebrating the fifth anniversary of Camp Hozhoni, a weekend retreat for children with cancer aged 18 and younger and their families to spend quality time together.

Angel On My Shoulder acquired Camp Hozhoni, a special camp offering support for children 18 and under living with cancer and their families, from the American Cancer Society, in 2014.

"This acquisition allowed Angel On My Shoulder to expand their camp options in a positive way and to embrace the needs of children with cancer and their families," the release states. "Since the first offering of the camp a year later, Camp Hozhoni has created countless memories for children with cancer and brought many families closer together through a program of hands-on activities and support groups."
