David Mickelson visits Rhinelander District Library
A large crowd packed the Rhinelander District Library May 15 to hear University of Wisconsin Professor David Mickelson speak about Wisconsin's extensive glacial landscapes. The program stood as part of the library's efforts to facilitate educational discussions on a bi-monthly basis.

Dairyland Walkers coming to Rhinelander
A volkssporting club from Madison called the Dairyland Walkers will hold a 5K/10K walking event Saturday, May 27, in Rhinelander.

The club is well on its way to holding a walk in every county in the state, according to a press release announcing the May 27 event.

Northwood School of Dance held its spring recital over the weekend. The dancers presented The Wizard of Oz as well as several specialty pieces. Pictured is the finale of 'The Wizard of Oz' featuring Dorothy and the entire cast. Dorothy was played by Tina Kansariwala, Sage Flory was the tinman, Annika Johnson was the wicked witch, Olivia Monk portrayed the scarecrow, the good witch was Natalie Shrock, and the cowardly lion was played by Mackenzie Bourcier and Makenzie Kukkan.

VA to host couples retreat at Camp American Legion
The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center will host a Warrior to Soul Mate Retreat for couples at Camp American Legion in Lake Tomahawk May 19-21, 2017.

Warrior to Soul Mate is a program that provides hope and renewal to relationships impacted by military service, deployments, and war, organizers said in a press release. It is free of charge for both the veteran and his or her significant other including hotel and meals.

The Rhinelander Area Food Pantry is looking for individuals interested in trying their hand at growing a large pumpkin. The third annual pumpkin growing contest will be held, ending at the Harvest Hoedown event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, according to a RAFP press release. This annual fall celebration benefits the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and the Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing.

Northwoods artists are invited to submit works of art for the upcoming Wisconsin Regional Art Program exhibit at Nicolet College May 30 to June 24.
